What is Meals on Wheels?
Meals on Wheels is a
volunteer based organisation delivering meals to people who, through sickness, age and/or
a disability cannot reasonably get a meal for themselves.
This service allows people to remain with dignity and independence in their own homes.
There is no Means Test as eligibility is based
solely on need, according to Home
& Community Care (HACC) guidelines.

The Service Offered.
Meals on Wheels provides a
midday meal to the recipient in their own home each
day, usually Monday to Friday, including Public
Holidays.
The meal is delivered mainly by
volunteer drivers and helpers between the hours of
10.00 am and 1.30 pm each week day or arrangements
can be made for two/three days per week or according
to need.
Recipients can receive meals on a
long or short term basis.
The meal consists of three courses: soup, main course, a sweet and a vitamin "C" supplement, usually orange juice or blackcurrant syrup.
Depending on area, recipients can receive a hot meal to eat straight away, or a chilled meal to heat up
later when it is convenient.
Frozen meals for the weekends and modified meals for special diets are also available.
